Step 1) You download the app for free, and enter your email address and phone number to verify your details.
Step 2) It tracks your steps (both walking and running, but outdoors only) and converts them into a currency dubbed Sweatcoins.
Step 3) You can then redeem these coins for cash, gift cards, or other purchases – the more coins you have, the higher the value the item you can exchange them for.
Sweatcoin is partnered with over 300 brands, including Graze, The Protein Works, and BooHoo.com, but you can also redeem your coins for Amazon or PayPal vouchers aka cash. You can even get an iPhone XS for 20,000 Sweatcoins!
Sweatcoin state that their mission is to get people moving by offering incentives. The main way you can earn money with Sweatcoin is from the app tracking your steps when you walk and run outdoors. Currently, the app won’t track your steps indoors as it uses a GPS signal, plus this also means that people can’t get free Sweatcoins simply by shaking their phone!
You can also earn additional Sweatcoins by watching an ad every day. This daily bonus provides the opportunity to earn up to 7 more Sweatcoins every week (which translates to about 7,000 extra steps).

Not all apps are made equal, and you’re right to do your research on if a Sweatcoin scam exists.
Sweatcoin is a totally legitimate app and is 100% not a scam. You can absolutely get paid simply for allowing the app to track your outdoors steps, it really is as simple as that.
Does Sweatcoin sell your data?
No, Sweatcoin doesn’t sell your data to any third parties. They use your location data only to track your steps and specifically state on their home page that your data is not for sale to any third parties.
Does the Sweatcoin app drain your battery life?
In order for Sweatcoin to be able to track your steps, it needs to be running in the background on your phone, so you can’t force-stop the app.
Some people report a slightly shorter battery life, but these reviews are few and far between and since I’ve been using the app, I haven’t noticed any real effect on my battery life.

Secondly, they take a 5% commission fee from each of your Sweatcoins – so if you earn 1 Sweatcoin per 1,000 steps, you actually earn 0.95 Sweatcoins.

Sweatcoin has several monthly subscription earnings that will allow you to earn more Sweatcoins per day:
Mover: The free, basic package which enables you to earn up to 5 Sweatcoins per day or up to 150 per month.
Shaker: Costs 4.75 Sweatcoins a month, allowing you to earn up to 10 Sweatcoins per day or up to 300 per month.
Quaker: Costs 20 Sweatcoins per month, and enables you to earn up to 15 Sweatcoins a day or up to 450 a month.
Breaker: 30 Sweatcoins a month, and you can earn up to 20/day or 600/month.

So far my experience of using Sweatcoin has been really positive. I like the user-friendly design of the app, how it works is very clear and transparent, and it’s clearly easy to make money or get some great deals simply for being more active – always a good exchange, in my opinion.
Sweatcoin provides a great incentive for people who want to increase their activity levels and is an easy way to earn rewards for people who are already very active – overall, it’s a win-win for everyone.
December 2019 UPDATE:
This post was originally written in August, so I’ve been using Sweatcoin for four months now.
I still really like the app – it hasn’t slowed down my battery life at all (or at least, not in any way that I’ve noticed). I haven’t redeemed my Sweatcoins yet which means I’m slowly building up a nice stockpile of coins I can redeem for cash or a voucher soon.
The app is definitely still in a bit of a ‘testing phase’ – some of the ads are a bit annoying when you claim the daily bonus, and sometimes it isn’t the most userfriendly. I find myself struggling to navigate it sometimes.
That being said, Sweatcoin is a really easy way to earn some points for essentially just living your life and being active, which is an incentive I can really get behind.
While this app definitely won’t make you rich, it is a nice way to track your steps and actually get rewarded for walking more. I’d definitely recommend Sweatcoin to anyone.
